ROUGH SILK Design recently had the good fortune to work with the respected Sydney-based property styling company Bowerbird Interiors.
Our cushions were featured throughout the interior of a light-filled Victorian terrace in the heart of Alexandria; adding subtle colour and edgy pattern to this contemporary design scheme.
Bowerbird selected minimal modern furniture in pale colours and natural finishes. The clean, simple lines juxtapose beautifully against the traditional period detail in the ceilings, doors and fire places. Whilst the neutral colour palette enhances a feeling of natural light and space.
The stylist has accentuated the existing colours in the property found on the facade of the house and built-in furniture by selecting artwork and accessories in blues, greys, pistachio and mint. A thread of blue colour elegantly weaves it’s way through the living areas drawing your eye out to the sunny courtyard at the back of the property.
RSD cushions Palm Chevron, Tracks, Weave and Timber Shingles in blues, whites and naturals were chosen to decorate the living areas; and perfectly compliment the scenes of stormy weather and natural arid landscape depicted in the artwork.
The two bedrooms boast a personality of their own. Bedroom 1 has accents of mint and black showcasing both sides of our Tracks/Urban Arrow cushion in Mint on Natural Canvas; and one of our ‘Tracks’ rectangular cushions in black on Natural Canvas.
Bedroom 2, my personal favourite has a strong black and white theme. A striking horse head print (think The Horse Whisperer, not The Godfather) hangs above the bed where 4 of our Urban Arrow cushions have been alternately grouped: 2 in Black and 2 in Charcoal Grey. The image subjects completely contrast but the colours match and both elements have a sense of movement …and it just works.
Overall the property has a warm, contemporary vibe. The staging scheme successfully marries ‘period elegance’ with ‘Scandi chic’ and ‘urban cool’. It will surely appeal to the city hipsters.
